November - Native American Heritage Month
Today we honor Deb Haaland. On March 16, 2021, she became the first Native American to serve as a Cabinet Secretary when she was named the 54th United States Secretary of the Interior by President Joe Biden. Deb Haaland was born on December 2, 1960 in Winslow, Arizona and is an enrolled member of the Laguna Pueblo Tribe. While overseeing the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Mrs. Haaland has made it a priority to address the national crisis of MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women).
