Today we honor Billy Mills.  Billy Mills was born on June 30, 1938 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.  He is a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation.  Mills received an athletic scholarship to the University of Kansas where he became a 3-time All-American in Cross Country.  In the 1964 Olympic Games, Mills shocked the world and won the 10,000 meter race while setting a world record.  His victory is considered one of the greatest Olympic upsets, as he was virtually unknown prior to the event.  Today Billy Mills travels the country empowering Native youth and encouraging them to follow their dreams.
